Working with HMP Altcourse, the North Wales Families’ Prison Bus Service provides for family and friends of offenders serving custodial sentences at this prison, who live in North West Wales, with enhanced opportunities to undertake visits. This regular monthly facility is offered in conjunction with the BARA organisation, and provides for a single straight through journey – collecting at Caernarfon, Bangor, Penmaenmawr and Llandudno Junction, with associated return. No advance fare is requested, although passengers may be asked to make retrospective travel claims using the Assisted Prison Visits scheme.
The option of providing visits to other prisons can be also be considered, by special arrangement, making it easier for those from North West Wales to visit their loved ones who have been transferred to other locations .
Research into providing a similar facility operating from Llandudno, via Colwyn Bay and Rhyl is being undertaken.
Full details of the BARA scheme are described in the Prison Bus Leaflet here
